Today’s Common Dreams article by Jake Johnson, If Nature Is Sacred, Capitalism Is Wicked, reads like the bibliography to Human History: the Final Chapter.
“Under capitalism, everything is a business opportunity — catastrophes, from tsunamis to wars, are no exception.”
In his best-selling book Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed, Pulitzer-prize winner Jared Diamond suggested that
“In just a few centuries, the people of Easter Island wiped out their forest, drove their plants and animals to extinction, and saw their complex society spiral into chaos and cannibalism.”
And Easter Island is the
“clearest example of a society that destroyed itself by over-exploiting its own resources.”
So, how might our Final Chapter read?
